@Worle strengthens community fitness with the future-proof Technogym Checkup and Digital Ecosystem

As a not-for-profit community sports centre, @Worle aims to make health and wellness accessible to all walks of life, including teens, older adults, beginners, athletes, people with disabilities, and groups.

Since opening in 2013, @Worle Centre Manager Candace Riley explains why a major investment in Technogym equipment and digital solutions has transformed the facility, maintaining its community values whilst supporting long-term growth in a competitive commercial market. @Worle has evolved to meet the changing needs of its community.

"We were ready for something bigger than a refurbishment,” said Candace. “This investment has changed who we are, from a community gym to a community space for health and wellbeing, and Technogym helped us take that step.”

The primary aim was to enhance the member experience, but Candace also wanted to generate growth, improve retention, and establish @Worle as a destination that offers health club quality at an affordable price. As a charity, every penny goes back into the community, so the centre needed future-proofed solutions that were durable, digitally connected, and capable of supporting a wide demographic of users.

Innovation with the Technogym digital ecosystem

For Candace and the board of trustees, Technogym offered everything the centre needed - innovation, reliability, future-proofing, and an ecosystem that would unify every touchpoint of the member journey.

“We needed more than new equipment,” she explained. “We needed a system that was intuitive, digital, and able to evolve with us. Technogym had everything we were looking for and more. Their ideas, support, and understanding of our goals were exceptional.”

A visit to Technogym Village, Italy was pivotal for the centre’s transformation. The team experienced Technogym Checkup for the first time and immediately recognised its potential as the foundation of @Worle’s upgraded member journey, offering insight-rich assessments and personalised training pathways that would appeal to new and experienced users.

With a diverse community, the centre needed equipment that catered to absolute beginners right through to keen amateur athletes. Technogym solutions offered that inclusivity, with a sleek aesthetic, durability for high usage, and a smaller footprint that allowed @Worle to create more functional space for PTs and group sessions.

Technogym App now sits at the heart of the centre’s member journey, giving users a single platform for booking inductions, following programmes, accessing content, and tracking progress. During the upgrade, more than 600 members were transitioned onto the digital ecosystem, and every member has been re-inducted using Technogym Checkup, 66% of the membership are now active users, with an average wellness age of 40 (measured by the products through various parameters).

“Technogym Checkup has had a massive impact on retention, sales, and revenue,” Candace says. “Some people have left other gyms and joined us because of it. It’s a great USP, and we’ve even been able to create new membership tiers for it.”

The Technogym digital ecosystem has improved communication between members and PTs, with in-app messaging supporting accountability, goal setting, and long-term consistency. The team can also use the data to understand usage patterns, create tailored programmes, and fine-tune the group class offer, with 27% of the members now following a personalised program.

The Technogym upgrade introduced performance products, such as plate-loaded Technogym Pure Strength and pin-loaded Selection as well as content-rich cardio solutions, including the Technogym Excite and Technogym Skillrun strengthening @Worle’s competitive edge.

Skillrun brought a high-performance treadmill experience to the centre for the first time, offering speed, power, and resistance formats that have become a unique selling point in a competitive local market. The Selection line strengthened @Worle’s offering for beginners and experienced users, while the new functional area with Technogym content and tutorials has created new opportunities for PTs and small-group sessions.

Technogym Group Cycle has added advanced digital content and performance data, attracting new participants and giving the team scope to design targeted programmes based on usage and performance insights.

Measurable impact on membership and retention

The results of the investment have been immediate and long-lasting. Since the installation, @Worle has experienced consistent positive net membership every month, removing the typical post-January drop-off. The centre now welcomes 40–60 new members each month without running promotions or discounts, and membership has grown from 345 in 2019 to more than 1200 today.

The investment has also strengthened @Worle’s operational model. Trainers can support more members using the AI-powered Technogym Checkup, Technogym App, and the Mywellness CRM enabling personalised outreach, and the centre’s hybrid PT model is helping more users develop confidence.
