Napier House driving investment in employee experiences with Technogym Corporate Wellness space

With health and fitness higher than ever on people’s personal priorities, Napier House in Brighton represents a corporate wellness space created as part of investment in employee experiences.

The opportunity arose to add a state-of-the-art fitness space, designed to make Napier House a stand out office building in Brighton. Ryan Carson, Head of Building Consultancy at SHW and Simon O’Neill, Senior Facilities Manager at JLL explain how partnering with Technogym brought invaluable insights and innovation to the project.

Napier House's 46,000 sq. ft. gym is part of a wider refurbishment that demonstrates a shift towards placemaking, with a focus on sustainability and employee wellness. For buildings with a mixed demographic of occupiers, branded wellness amenities contribute to recruitment, retention, and overall tenant satisfaction.

Partnership with Technogym delivers expertise and innovation

The corporate gym at Napier House sought expert guidance from Technogym, leveraging their specialist knowledge to navigate the challenges of installing a fitness facility in a commercial building.

The consultative process began with consideration of the space, including floor-to-ceiling height limitations and concerns about noise transference throughout the building. These challenges required thoughtful equipment selection and layout design, and Technogym collaborated with GTA Interiors and onsite teams, handing over a plug-and-play system set up for no staff use.

Digital-led fitness equipment for no staff spaces

As a 24/7 facility, the gym at Napier House had to be user-friendly and frictionless, with variety for beginners and experienced fitness users. Technogym Biostrength emerged as the ideal solution for the heart of the space, providing safe and effective strength training with personalised training modalities. With advanced features like automatic load reduction and assisted spotter function, Biostrength makes strength training accessible and progressively challenging for all users.

Every aspect of the user experience is streamlined through Technogym’s ecosystem. The no staff space benefits from digital programmes and workout sessions trainers built into the Excite cardio equipment, so every user can enjoy a motivating workout. Technogym Universe provides a strength training solution with multiple training options and variety.

Technogym App serves as a central platform for users accessing content, exercise guides, and training logs, as well as a user communication tool for the management team.

Activating the space with Technogym Educators

The launch of Napier House's gym relied on strategic activation to build user confidence and enthusiasm. The activation strategy recognised that even the most advanced equipment requires proper introduction to maximise safety and enjoyment. Technogym provided support during this phase, supplying Educators to train a cohort of 60 people on the Technogym app, equipment, and content. This initial cohort became ambassadors who now induct other users, creating a sustainable system for future onboarding. This organic approach is possible due to the intuitive, user-friendly equipment and streamlined support of Technogym app.

Creating a positive impact on workplace culture

Just three months after opening, the gym has become an integral part of workplace culture. 24/7 accessibility allows users to train in the morning, during lunch breaks, or after work, boosting the value proposition for tenants. As an employee-only amenity, the gym doesn’t just support individual wellbeing. It is also strengthening a sense of community by creating opportunities for interaction outside traditional work settings.

Wellness amenities are central to conversations of facility improvements and tenant amenities, and the success of Napier House's gym installation helped raise ESG standards across the campus. The collaboration between Technogym, GTA Interiors, SHW, and JLL demonstrates the power of a many-to-many approach across design, digital, installation, and launch.
